Frequently Asked Questions — Gold Rate in Alwar

What is the 22K gold rate in Alwar today?

The 22 karat, or 916, gold rate in Alwar today is shown per gram and per 10 grams in the live table at the top of this page, refreshed every business day against MCX and IBJA benchmarks. 916 refers to 91.6 percent purity. It is a bullion reference rate and excludes making charges, GST and stone value.

Is gold cheaper in Jaipur or Delhi than in Alwar?

The metal rate is the same in all three. Alwar sits roughly 150 kilometres from both and prices in line with both, and Rajasthan levies no additional state tax on gold beyond GST. What differs is the making charge convention: Rajasthan generally quotes per gram, Delhi generally quotes a percentage of gold value, and on plain work the per gram convention is dramatically cheaper. That is why an Alwar buyer should usually shop toward Jaipur rather than toward Delhi for gold.

How do I compare a per gram making charge with a percentage?

Divide the per gram figure by the gold rate per gram. At an illustrative 13,100 rupees per gram, 200 rupees is roughly 1.5 percent, 300 rupees is roughly 2.3 percent and 450 rupees is roughly 3.4 percent. Set those against a percentage quote of 12 to 25 percent and the difference is stark. On a 25 gram piece the spread between the cheapest and dearest option runs to roughly 79,000 rupees on identical metal.

Should I buy kundan work in Alwar or Jaipur?

Jaipur, for anything significant. It is roughly 150 kilometres away and is the centre of kundan and meenakari work in India, and the depth of workmanship available there is not matched locally. Alwar is the better option for plain and traditional gold bought by weight, and for a relationship you will use repeatedly for exchanges and additions.

Does meenakari enamel work have resale value?

No. Meenakari is skilled labour applied to the surface and it is not recovered when the piece is exchanged or pledged. A lender or a buyer credits you for gold content. The same applies to the stones in kundan work. Buy enamelled and stone set pieces because they are beautiful and will be worn, not as a store of value, and keep the savings portion of the household's gold in plainer pieces or coins.

When is the best time to buy gold in Alwar?

The summer months, if the purchase is discretionary. The market is quiet, karigars have capacity and making charges are most negotiable. Avoid the fortnight before Dhanteras and the weeks before Akha Teej and the clustered wedding dates entirely. Note also that local demand follows the rabi harvest, so a strong mustard season fills the counters regardless of what the rate is doing.

How do I verify that gold is genuinely hallmarked?

Look for three marks on the piece: the BIS logo, a purity grade of 916, 750 or 585, and a six character HUID. Enter the HUID in the BIS CARE app to confirm the registered jeweller and certified purity. On a worked or enamelled piece the mark sits on a clasp or plain reverse section and can be hard to spot, so ask the seller to point it out. Do it even at a jeweller the family has used for generations, because a long relationship is not a purity certificate.

Why does the density test not work on my kundan set?

Because kundan and enamelled pieces contain stones, lac filling and foil alongside the gold, so the water displacement reading is meaningless. It will suggest a low density and imply a fake where none exists. The density check is also unreliable on hollow pieces. Use XRF testing at a BIS recognised assaying centre instead, which is non destructive and returns a purity figure in minutes.

Should I take a gold loan or a crop loan?

Check the crop loan first. A Kisan Credit Card facility or a co-operative crop loan is frequently cheaper than a gold loan and does not put jewellery at risk. It is slower and needs paperwork, which is why households reach for the gold loan when the need is urgent. Arrange the cheaper facility in a good year, before you need it, so the fast expensive option is not the only one available in a bad one. For a salaried household in the industrial belt, a provident fund advance is usually cheaper again.

Should I buy coins or jewellery if my income is seasonal?

Buy the jewellery the family will wear at weddings, Gangaur and Teej, and hold the buffer in coins. A lender assessing a sealed coin reads purity and weight off a certificate, while a lender assessing a kundan set with stones and enamel is estimating the gold underneath, and the estimate is theirs. If any part of why you hold gold is that it can be pledged when a season goes wrong, coins deliver that more reliably and at a fraction of the entry cost.

Should I remake an old family set or sell it?

Remaking is almost always better value. You keep every gram of the metal and pay only for labour, rather than taking a deduction on sale and then paying making charges again on a replacement. You lose the design and nothing else. Have the set assayed first so the weight and purity going in are recorded independently, and keep the job work invoice with whatever documentation existed for the original piece.

What is a ratti and how does it compare to a carat?

The ratti is a traditional gemstone weight still widely used across Rajasthan, particularly for coloured stones and astrological gem buying. It is smaller than a carat and it is not standardised, with conversions varying between roughly 0.9 and 1.1 carats depending on who is measuring. If a stone is quoted to you in ratti, ask for the carat weight as well and get it on the invoice. Any real certificate will state carats.

Where can I sell or exchange gold in Alwar?

Get the pieces assayed at a BIS recognised centre first, then take quotes from more than one buyer. Exchange against a new purchase usually gives the best value, and established old city jewellers around Hope Circus assess traditional Rajasthani work more accurately than a counter that sees it rarely. Consider remaking before selling, and for anything substantial Jaipur is worth the journey since the refining and wholesale trade sits there.

I buy gold from farm income. What records should I keep?

Agricultural income is exempt from income tax, which means a farming household may hold gold that looks large relative to declared taxable income. That is entirely legitimate and it makes records more important rather than less. Keep the mandi sale receipts for the crop, the bank credits for the proceeds and the jewellery invoices, so the chain from harvest to purchase can be shown. Route crop money through the bank account before buying and pay by transfer. This is general information, not tax advice.

Does Lucira have a store in Alwar?

No. Lucira does not operate a store in Alwar or anywhere in Rajasthan. Our nearest experience centres are in Delhi NCR, and Alwar customers can order online with certified pieces and a 15 day money back window. For plain and traditional gold bought by weight the local jewellers are better value than we are, and for kundan and meenakari work Jaipur is where the craft is. Where we compete is certified lab grown diamond jewellery and lighter contemporary pieces, and specifically on documentation.
