Gold Rate in Chandigarh Today

Live gold prices for Chandigarh and the tricity, updated every business day.

Today's gold rate in Chandigarh for 24 karat, 22 karat, 18 karat and 14 karat gold is shown in the live table below, updated every business day against MCX and IBJA benchmarks. Every figure is a bullion reference rate for the metal alone and excludes making charges, GST and the value of any stones.

One structural fact shapes this market more than any other. Chandigarh is a planned city, built from the 1950s after Partition left Punjab without Lahore as its capital, and it has no centuries old jewellery quarter of the kind Mumbai, Kolkata or Jaipur inherited. The trade grew inside designed commercial sectors instead, which makes it unusually organised, unusually competitive, and serving three states rather than one. Making charges here are commonly quoted in rupees per gram rather than as a percentage, which matters a great deal on heavy Punjabi bridal work. This page covers how the rate is set, the Punjabi festive and harvest calendar including why Baisakhi rewards buyers, purity and hallmark verification, a worked bill example, kundan and polki pricing, where to buy and sell across the tricity, taxation, and a 15 question FAQ.

Today's Gold Rate in Mohali

Gold rates in Mohali are effectively identical to Chandigarh, since the tricity prices off the same regional reference and jewellers there are minutes away. Mohali sits in Punjab while Chandigarh is a Union Territory and Panchkula is in Haryana, but GST is a national tax so there is no cross border saving on rates or tax within the tricity. Zirakpur has grown into a genuine retail cluster of its own. Buyers routinely take quotes across all three, and because the area is compact that comparison is achievable in a single afternoon.Mohali are the same as Chandigarh — both fall under the same state jewellery association pricing.

Frequently Asked Questions — Gold Rate in Chandigarh

What is the 22K gold rate in Chandigarh today?

The 22 karat gold rate in Chandigarh today is shown per gram and per 10 grams in the live table at the top of this page, refreshed every business day against MCX and IBJA benchmarks. It is a bullion reference rate and excludes making charges, stone value and GST.

What is the 24K gold rate in Chandigarh today?

Today's 24 karat rate for Chandigarh appears in the live table above. At 99.9 percent purity it is used for coins and bars rather than jewellery, because pure gold is too soft to hold a clasp or a setting. Sector 17 showrooms carry certified coins as standard.

Why is my jewellery bill higher than the gold rate shown?

The published rate covers gold value only. A Chandigarh bill adds making charges, commonly quoted in rupees per gram, GST at 3 percent, a hallmarking fee per piece, and on kundan or polki work the value of the stones. On a heavy bridal set those additions are substantial because the making charge scales with weight.

Does the gold rate shown include GST?

No. The rates on this page are pre tax bullion reference rates. GST at 3 percent is applied at billing. GST is a national tax, so the rate is identical whether you buy in Chandigarh, Mohali or Panchkula. There is no cross border saving within the tricity on tax grounds.

Are making charges in Chandigarh quoted per gram or as a percentage?

Commonly per gram, as a rupee figure rather than a percentage of gold value. That has two effects. The charge does not inflate when the gold rate rises, which favours the buyer on a rising market. And it scales strictly with weight, so a heavy gokhru carries no built in volume discount. To compare against a percentage quote, divide the per gram figure by the gold rate per gram.

Why is a Punjabi bridal set so expensive?

Because it combines three costs at scale. The pieces are heavy by design, so the gold value is large. Making charges are quoted per gram and scale with that weight. And on kundan, jadau or polki work the stone value is a further component that can rival the metal. A full set is among the largest single gold purchases made anywhere in India, and the making and stone portions are largely unrecoverable on resale.

How do I verify that gold is genuinely hallmarked?

Look for three marks: the BIS logo, a purity grade of 916, 750 or 585, and a six character HUID. Enter the HUID in the BIS CARE app to confirm the registered jeweller and certified purity. On a bridal set of a dozen pieces, check every one. A set assembled from several sources may not be uniformly hallmarked, and verifying a sample is not verification.

Is gold cheaper in Chandigarh or Delhi?

Delhi typically prints marginally lower, since Chandigarh is around 250 kilometres inland and sources through the Delhi trade. But the gap is small, because the corridor is well served and tricity competition is intense. Driving to Delhi to save on the metal rate does not pay once you count the journey. Comparing three showrooms within the tricity does.

Should I buy from Sector 22 or Sector 17?

It depends what you are buying. Sector 22 is the traditional heart, with legacy family jewellers who specialise in heavy Punjabi designs and are generally keener on making charges. Sector 17 Plaza is the premium belt, with national brands, contemporary bridal, certified diamonds and 24 karat coins, at fixed pricing and higher making charges. For a traditional bridal set, Sector 22. For a certified diamond piece with no negotiation, Sector 17.

Should I buy 22K or 18K gold jewellery?

A Punjabi bridal set frequently contains both, correctly. The heavy plain gold pieces, the gokhru and the substantial necklace forms, are 916 because they need metal that can be worked into shape and hold it. The kundan and diamond set pieces are 18 karat because a harder alloy grips a stone securely over years of wear. A jeweller recommending 750 for stone set pieces and 916 for heavy ones is giving correct technical advice in both cases.

What is the difference between kundan, jadau and polki?

Kundan is the setting technique, in which nearly pure gold foil is pressed cold around each stone. Jadau is the tradition of embedding uncut stones into gold worked while soft. Polki is uncut natural diamond, the stone itself. The three are used interchangeably in conversation and are not interchangeable in price. All three labels also get applied to pieces set with glass, so ask specifically what is set rather than accepting the category name.

When is the best time to buy gold in Chandigarh?

Baisakhi in April is the standout, and it is unusual. Most festive peaks see jewellers hold firm on making charges because demand is guaranteed, but Baisakhi follows the harvest, buying is discretionary rather than deadline driven, and jewellers compete for it with discounted making charges. The summer months from May to July are quietest overall. Avoid the weeks before Karva Chauth and Dhanteras, when charges are least flexible.

Where can I sell or exchange gold in Chandigarh?

Get the pieces assayed at a BIS recognised centre first, then take quotes from more than one buyer. This matters here because heavy jointed Punjabi work was frequently cadmium soldered and assays below the stated 916. Options include the original jeweller, established Sector 22 family houses, branded showrooms in Sector 17 and at Elante, and jewellers in Mohali, Panchkula and Zirakpur. Note that you are credited for the metal, not the making charge or the stones.

What tax do I pay when I sell gold in Chandigarh?

Any gain is taxed as capital gains, calculated as sale proceeds less your cost of acquisition and any expenses of sale. Whether it is short term or long term depends on the holding period applicable in the year of sale, and both the threshold and the rate have been revised in recent Finance Acts. On a bridal set you may well have made a loss rather than a gain, but proving it needs itemised original invoices. This is general information, not tax advice.

Does Lucira have a store in Chandigarh?

No. Lucira does not currently operate a store in Chandigarh, Punjab or Haryana. Our nearest experience centres are in Delhi NCR at Lajpat Nagar, Paschim Vihar and Wave One Courtyard in Noida Sector 18. Chandigarh customers can order online with certified pieces and a 15 day money back window. For a heavy Punjabi bridal set, Sector 22 is where that craft lives and we would point you there.
