Gold Rate in Indore Today

Live gold prices for Indore and Madhya Pradesh, updated every business day.

Today's gold rate in Indore for 24 karat, 22 karat, 18 karat and 14 karat gold is shown in the live table below, updated every business day against MCX and IBJA benchmarks. Every figure is a bullion reference rate for the metal alone and excludes making charges, wastage and GST.

Indore is the commercial capital of Madhya Pradesh and its bullion centre, and that shapes everything on this page. The Sarafa association here distributes the daily rate the state prices from, which is why Indore and Bhopal print identically. Sarafa Bazaar itself is unique in India: a jewellery market behind Rajwada by day, established under the Holkars in the late eighteenth century, and one of the country's best known street food markets in the same lanes by night. Underneath the festive calendar sits an agricultural one, because Malwa is a major soybean and wheat belt and harvest money reaches households weeks before Dhanteras and Akshaya Tritiya. This page covers how the rate is set and why Indore sets rather than receives it, making charges and the wastage line to watch, buying and selling in a wholesale market, the two calendars that govern demand, taxation, and a 15 question FAQ.

Today's Gold Rate in Bhopal

Gold rates in Bhopal are identical to Indore, since Madhya Pradesh works from a common bullion association reference distributed from the Indore Sarafa trade. There is no district arbitrage between the two. What differs is character. Bhopal is the state capital with an administrative and salaried buyer base and its own Sarafa and Chowk Bazaar markets, while Indore is the commercial and wholesale centre that supplies dealers across the state. Buyers from Bhopal and smaller Malwa towns travel to Indore for a large wedding purchase, and since the metal rate is the same, any saving comes from making charges alone.Bhopal are the same as Indore — both fall under the same state jewellery association pricing.

Frequently Asked Questions — Gold Rate in Indore

What is the 22K gold rate in Indore today?

The 22 karat gold rate in Indore today is shown per gram and per 10 grams in the live table at the top of this page, refreshed every business day against MCX and IBJA benchmarks. It is a bullion reference rate and excludes making charges, wastage and GST.

What is the 24K gold rate in Indore today?

Today's 24 karat rate for Indore appears in the live table above. At 99.9 percent purity it is used for coins and bars rather than jewellery. Indore trades bullion at scale through Sarafa, so coins and bars are readily available here at a genuinely modest premium.

Is the gold rate different in Indore and Bhopal?

No. Madhya Pradesh works from a common bullion association reference, and that reference is distributed from Indore. Indore and Bhopal print identically and smaller towns across the state follow. There is no district arbitrage to find. What varies is the making charge, and that varies within Indore itself.

Why is my jewellery bill higher than the gold rate shown?

The published rate covers gold value only. An Indore bill adds making charges, commonly 8 to 20 percent, wastage where charged separately, GST at 3 percent, a hallmarking fee per piece, and on a set piece the value of the stones. At standard making and no wastage, expect a final bill around 15 percent above bullion value.

What is wastage and should I be paying it?

Wastage accounts for metal genuinely lost while a piece is being worked, so some charge is legitimate. The problem is disclosure. A 5 percent wastage line on a 25 gram piece adds around 15,000 rupees while the headline making charge still reads 12 percent. Ask for making and wastage as two separate percentages in writing before agreeing anything.

What are Sarafa Bazaar's timings for buying gold?

Sarafa trades jewellery during the day, roughly from late morning until early evening, and the same lanes become a street food market at night. Arrive after the shops close and you will find an excellent chaat market and no jewellers. Trading hours have also been subject to local dispute between the jewellery association and the night vendors, so check before making a special trip. A weekday morning is the best time to buy.

How do I verify that gold is genuinely hallmarked?

Look for three marks on the piece: the BIS logo, a purity grade of 916, 750 or 585, and a six character HUID. Enter the HUID in the BIS CARE app to confirm the registered jeweller and certified purity. Checking at a crowded Sarafa counter feels awkward and is entirely normal, and any jeweller trading properly expects it.

Where is the main gold market in Indore?

Sarafa Bazaar, behind Rajwada in the old city, split into Bada Sarafa and Chhota Sarafa. Roughly two hundred shops, many family firms trading for generations, alongside wholesale bullion dealers. The Rajwada area holds further established jewellers. MG Road, Palasia, Vijay Nagar and the malls carry the modern showrooms and national chains at higher making charges.

Is Sarafa Bazaar cheaper than a showroom?

On making charges, generally yes. The metal rate is identical everywhere in Madhya Pradesh, so the difference is entirely in labour. A Sarafa dealer may quote 8 to 12 percent where a branded showroom quotes 16 to 20. On 20 grams that is roughly 30,000 rupees. What a showroom offers in return is fixed pricing, certification as standard, and easier recourse. Both are legitimate choices.

Should I buy 22K or 18K gold jewellery?

Buy 22 karat for plain gold and traditional or bridal work, because it holds gold value well and is soft enough to be worked into shape. Buy 18 karat for diamond and gemstone jewellery, where the alloy must be hard enough to grip a stone securely through years of wear. A jeweller recommending 750 on a stone set piece and 916 on a plain one is giving correct technical advice in both cases.

When is the best time to buy gold in Indore?

The summer and monsoon months from May to July are the quietest stretch of the Indore year and the most negotiable on making charges. Avoid the weeks before Dhanteras, when both festive demand and post harvest soybean money hit the market together. If you must buy coins for Dhanteras, buying a week early costs nothing in auspiciousness and saves on the premium.

Why does the harvest affect gold buying in Indore?

Malwa is a major soybean, wheat and cotton belt and Indore is its trading centre, so the region has an agricultural cash cycle underneath its festive one. Soybean money reaches farming households in autumn weeks before Dhanteras, and wheat payments arrive in spring shortly before Akshaya Tritiya. In both cases the festival lands on a region that has just been paid, which is why demand at those peaks runs stronger here than in a purely urban market.

Where can I sell or exchange gold in Indore?

Get the pieces assayed at a BIS recognised centre first, then take quotes from more than one buyer, which in Sarafa means walking a short distance. Options include the original jeweller, established family houses across Sarafa and Rajwada, bullion dealers who buy scrap as trading stock, and branded showrooms with a published deduction structure. Sellers generally do better in a bullion market, because a dealer has an immediate use for the metal rather than needing to send it to a refiner.

What tax do I pay when I sell gold in Indore?

Any gain is taxed as capital gains, calculated as sale proceeds less your cost of acquisition and expenses of sale. Whether it is short term or long term depends on the holding period applicable in the year of sale, and both threshold and rate have been revised in recent Finance Acts. If you have bought and sold several times, each disposal is its own transaction with its own holding period. This is general information, not tax advice.

Does Lucira have a store in Indore?

No. Lucira does not currently operate a store in Indore or anywhere in Madhya Pradesh. Our experience centres are in Mumbai, Pune and Delhi NCR. Indore customers can order online with certified pieces and a 15 day money back window. For plain gold and coins, Sarafa is a wholesale bullion market and will price better than we can. Where we compete is certified lab grown diamond jewellery and lighter contemporary pieces.
