Gold Rate in Surat Today

Live gold prices for Surat and south Gujarat, updated every business day.

Today's gold rate in Surat for 24 karat, 22 karat, 18 karat and 14 karat gold is shown in the live table below, updated every business day against MCX and IBJA benchmarks. Every figure is a bullion reference rate for the metal alone and excludes making charges, GST and the value of any diamonds.

Surat carries one of the narrowest gold premiums in western India, and the reason is the diamond trade. Gujarat's port proximity, no additional state levy, and the precious materials infrastructure built for one industry and reused for another all compress the local premium. Two things follow for a buyer. Making charges here are quoted both as a percentage and per gram, so establishing the basis is the first question to ask. And a larger share of jewellery sold in this city is diamond set than almost anywhere in India, which means the stones frequently carry more value than the gold. This page covers how the rate is set, purity and hallmark verification, worked bill examples for both making conventions, diamond certification and natural versus lab grown disclosure, the Chauta Bazaar, Soni Bazaar and Varachha markets, the Gujarati buying calendar, taxation, and a 15 question FAQ.

Today's Gold Rate in Navsari

Gold rates in Navsari track Surat closely, since south Gujarat prices off the same state reference and most retailers source through the Surat trade. Navsari has its own long established jewellery market and a historic goldsmithing tradition of its own, though for diamond set work and for the widest selection buyers generally travel into Surat. Bharuch, Valsad and Vapi follow the same pattern.Navsari are the same as Surat — both fall under the same state jewellery association pricing.

Frequently Asked Questions — Gold Rate in Surat

What is the 22K gold rate in Surat today?

The 22 karat gold rate in Surat today is shown per gram and per 10 grams in the live table at the top of this page, refreshed every business day against MCX and IBJA benchmarks. It is a bullion reference rate and excludes making charges, GST and the value of any diamonds.

What is the 24K gold rate in Surat today?

Today's 24 karat rate for Surat appears in the live table above. At 99.9 percent purity it is used for coins and bars rather than jewellery, and it is traded through the Soni Bazaar wholesale cluster.

Why is gold cheaper in Surat than in most Indian cities?

Four reasons. Gujarat sits close to the ports through which imported gold enters India, with Hazira and Magdalla nearby. The state levies no additional tax on gold beyond GST. The precious materials infrastructure built for the diamond trade handles gold through the same channels. And three separate retail belts compete for the same buyer. Surat typically prints alongside Ahmedabad and Mumbai at the lower end of the Indian range.

Why is my jewellery bill higher than the gold rate shown?

The published rate covers gold value only. A Surat bill adds making charges, GST at 3 percent, a hallmarking fee, and on a diamond set piece the value of the stones, which frequently exceeds the gold. On plain gold expect roughly 13 to 16 percent above bullion value. On diamond pieces the metal can be the smaller half of the total.

Are making charges in Surat quoted per gram or as a percentage?

Both, which is why establishing the basis is the first question to ask. Percentage quotes commonly run 8 to 13 percent on plain work. Per gram quotes are typically in the low hundreds and rise with complexity. To compare the two, divide the per gram figure by the gold rate per gram: 300 rupees per gram against a 10,000 rupee rate is 3 percent. The two look nothing alike and can differ enormously on the same piece.

Does the gold rate shown include GST?

No. The rates on this page are pre tax bullion reference rates. GST at 3 percent applies to gold jewellery at billing. Loose diamonds carry their own GST rate, so a diamond set invoice may legitimately show more than one tax line.

How do I know whether a diamond is natural or lab grown?

You ask, and you get a laboratory report. There is no visual test. Lab grown diamonds are chemically and optically identical to mined ones, and distinguishing them requires instruments that read growth characteristics. Experienced jewellers cannot tell by eye either. Since Surat produces both at scale, the question is entirely normal here and a good seller answers it in one word and produces the report.

Are lab grown diamonds real diamonds?

Yes. They are chemically, physically and optically identical to mined diamonds and are graded on the same scale by the same laboratories. They are not simulants such as cubic zirconia or moissanite, which are entirely different materials. There is nothing wrong with buying one, and Lucira's own diamonds are lab grown and carry IGI or SGL certification. What matters is that you are told which you are buying, in writing, because the two carry very different prices.

How do I verify that gold is genuinely hallmarked?

Look for three marks: the BIS logo, a purity grade of 916, 750 or 585, and a six character HUID. Enter the HUID in the BIS CARE app to confirm the registered jeweller and certified purity. Remember that a hallmark certifies the gold only and tells you nothing about the diamonds, which need a separate laboratory report.

Why is so much Surat jewellery 18K rather than 22K?

Because a diamond needs metal that will not flex or wear at the claw. 22 karat is too soft to grip a stone reliably over years of daily wear and settings work loose. 18 karat is harder and holds securely. Since diamond set jewellery is a much larger share of what Surat sells, 750 stamped pieces are proportionally more common here. A jeweller recommending 18 karat for a diamond piece is giving correct technical advice.

Where is the main gold market in Surat?

Three belts. Chauta Bazaar and Soni Bazaar in the old city carry the traditional trade and the keenest pricing on plain gold and bullion. Varachha Road serves the diamond community and is one of the busiest jewellery stretches in Gujarat. Ring Road, Ghod Dod Road and Athwa Lines carry modern and premium showrooms. Take quotes across the belts rather than within one.

Is it a good time to buy gold in Surat?

If the purchase is tied to a wedding or festival, the date is fixed and rate timing is secondary. If it is discretionary, the monsoon months from June to August are the best window here: showrooms are quiet, the diamond trade is in its slower season and making charges are most negotiable. Avoid the Diwali weeks, when diamond industry bonuses are paid and demand peaks sharply.

Where can I sell gold or diamond jewellery in Surat?

Get the pieces assayed at a BIS recognised centre first, gather invoices and any diamond certificates, then take quotes from more than one buyer. Options include the original jeweller, established houses in Chauta Bazaar and Soni Bazaar, and bullion dealers in the wholesale cluster. Expect generous credit for gold and modest credit at best for diamonds, since an individual stone needs a specific buyer. A certificate makes a stone considerably easier to place.

What tax do I pay when I sell gold in Surat?

Any gain is taxed as capital gains, calculated as sale proceeds less your cost of acquisition and expenses of sale. Whether it is short term or long term depends on the holding period applicable in the year of sale, and both threshold and rate have been revised in recent Finance Acts. On a diamond set piece you may well have made a loss rather than a gain, but proving it needs an itemised original invoice. This is general information, not tax advice.

Does Lucira have a store in Surat?

No. Lucira does not currently operate a store in Surat or anywhere in Gujarat. Our experience centres are in Mumbai at Borivali and Chembur, in Pune on Jangali Maharaj Road, and in Delhi NCR at Lajpat Nagar, Paschim Vihar and Noida Sector 18. Surat customers can order online with certified pieces and a 15 day money back window. On price and choice for diamond set gold, this city is genuinely hard to beat and we would not claim otherwise.
